According to The Pulse Of Radio, the woman who the band GRETA VAN FLEET is named after admitted in a new interview with the Detroit Free Press that she is not really a fan of the hard-rocking quartet’s music. 88-year-old Gretna Van Fleet, who gave the group her blessing for the name, revealed: “It’s not my favorite music, and the boys know that. But I think they’re very talented, and I support them.”

Van Fleet, a lifelong Michigan resident who lives in the town of Frankenmuth, is retired and content devoting her time to family, sewing and church activities. She said her musical tastes run more toward classical and old pop standards.

But Van Fleet, a musician herself who plays the violin, dulcimer and drums, has now become a bit of a rock star herself thanks to the band being one of the big rock breakouts of the last couple of years. She explained: “Every day, out in town, somebody will stop me. People are so excited to meet me… It’s amazing how many friends I have now. It’s been incredible. The family are supportive, and they think it’s fun.”

That night, the town of Frankenmuth threw a bash that was part record-release party, part birthday celebration. Gretna Van Fleet said: “I didn’t think it would last long — they wouldn’t hang on to this crazy name.”
